The Soto StormBreaker is an innovative multi-fuel stove that allows cooking with gasoline without the need for traditional preheating. The StormBreaker can be used in extremely cold temperatures and at high altitudes. The stove’s flame burns with high and consistent power. The flame can also be finely adjusted, which is rare for multi-fuel stoves.
The concave design of the burner head is similar to the award-winning Soto WindMaster, which makes the StormBreaker highly efficient and performance-oriented, even in windy conditions. The good performance in windy conditions also helps keep fuel consumption moderate.
The Soto StormBreaker uses the SmartPump principle, first introduced with the Soto Muka multi-fuel stove. SmartPump allows the stove to be used with gas. The fuel type can be quickly and easily switched between gas and gasoline without changing the nozzle.
Using and maintaining the StormBreaker multi-fuel stove is hassle-free, as it doesn’t require the preheating typical of other multi-fuel stoves. This means the stove produces significantly less soot and doesn’t need to be cleaned as often as traditional preheating multi-fuel stoves. When using gasoline, the StormBreaker burns so cleanly that hardly any soot residue is left at the bottom of the pot. When the stove is turned off, it blows the gasoline feed line and nozzles clean, preventing dirt and gasoline residues from accumulating in the nozzle.
The Soto StormBreaker is a true four-season camping stove. It is especially well-suited for winter use when using liquid fuel, and also performs excellently in summer conditions. If packing size and weight aren’t your top priorities, but you value quality, power, and versatility, the Soto StormBreaker is perfect for you—even as your only camping stove!
Please note, however, that using a multi-fuel stove requires considerably more familiarization than, for example, using a gas stove. Multi-fuel stoves also need to be serviced regularly. It is a good idea to practice using it in winter conditions in your backyard before going on a hike, so that you are fully familiar with how to use a multi-fuel stove.
We recommend using 4T small engine gasoline or another purified gasoline for the Soto StormBreaker multi-fuel stove, as it burns cleaner than regular gasoline and does not contain ethanol.
Please read this before making your purchase decision: although StormBreaker is a high-quality and efficient multi-fuel stove, it is still subject to the laws of physics. In winter use, cold gasoline ignites much more slowly because cold gasoline vaporizes significantly less efficiently than warm gasoline, and the ignition of the stove’s fuel mixture is slower. In extremely cold weather (below -20°C), the fuel bottle and pump may need to be warmed up, for example inside a jacket, so that the fuel warms up slightly and vaporizes for ignition. The pump seals also shrink in extremely cold weather, which can make it difficult to achieve the operating pressure in the fuel bottle, which can also be helped by warming the bottle and pump.
